Time Management and the Gym

11/26/2012

I have developed some time management problems lately. I seem to have time to do everything BUT go to the gym.

I want to get up early and go before work, but I wouldn't get enough sleep then because I have a crap sleep schedule. One of the main problems between the gym and I is that I AM SO BUSY. Once my boyfriend deployed I had two options: 1) keep continuously busy or 2) go crazy. Since I genuinely enjoy being busy, I went with option one.

OPTION ONE TOOK OVER, MAN:
  • I'm working overtime at work. 50 hours or so instead of 40.
  • Two swing clubs.
  • THE HOLIDAYS
  • Preparing for the holidays (I go ALL out)
  • People wanting to hang out all the time.
  • Weekly dinner at a friend's place.
  • Various projects
My gym hours don't jive right now because of the holidays. I NEED to remedy this or lose any progress I've made working out. So I'm going to try a few things. When I say I'm going to do something on this blog or on my blog's Facebook page (you see what I did there), I feel more obligated to do it because I've told other people I would. I think that's why I've failed so many times in the past. ANYWAYS-

Things to Do:
  • I HAVE to go at LEAST three times a week. I feel like a total failure now if I don't.
  • If I can't go in the afternoon, I'm going to have to get my fat butt up and go in the AM.
  • I need to start going to bed no later than midnight. Earlier on the days when I work at 4am. This way I have a better chance of getting up to go to the gym on days when I can't make it later.
  • I possibly need to learn to say no to people. Or delay them. Either way.

If you have any ideas on how to fit this in, LET ME KNOW. I usually budget 2.5 hours for the gym. That's driving there, changing, elliptical, quick rest to rinse my face, stretching, weights, stretching, shower, dress, and then do my hair (which doesn't take long).

Ah yeah finding gym time is totally a bitch. I fail so hard at it...which is why I work out solely from my house. However, since the gym is helping you to do what you do stick with it!!! But if you miss one of your three days...or even wanna pad those three days with little extras. Try doing some small stuff. Rather than do absolutely nothing over a missed gym day just do something light. Maybe look up some yoga either on a tv for free or on the internet..idk what kinda cable you have or dont have. And try to do some abs. It doesn't take much to keep up with. For a while...annnd I'm a slacker lately. But for a while I'd do 200 varied crunches a day whether I worked out or not. I also worked my way up to 20 push ups... (from 5...cauuuse yeah that shit's hard!) Look up a few diff crunches and just stick to it everyday in the morning after you wake up...or perhaps in the evening right before you eat. Start small and I prefer to do reps of 25. Bump down to 15 if you want. I'd do 25 standard crunches. 20 left and 20 right. 25 standard again. then 10 leg lifts. Eventually I bumped up to 25 standard. 25 left, 25 right, 25 standard, 25 left, 25 right, 25 standard and 25 leg lifts. And it only takes a few minutes. Also in case you didn't know...exercise before a meal is best...cause not only does working out after you eat suck cause you're full, buuuut after a work out your metabolism should be more active. This helps you burn more food and save less. So keep less weight. ^___^ Stick with it.

The problem with that is that I 100% completely hate working out at home and just cannot get myself to do it. I go to the gym because I HATE working out at home so bad. XD I think home is my lazy place. I have no interest in working out there. I just can't do it.

Perhaps try to designate a work out space? Like I can't work out in my room I just end up falling asleep, even on the floor. I live at home right now...so I'm sure you're shorter on space since I think you live in apartment right? But basically my basement was always my workout space. Sooo all I had to do was convince myself to get up and go downstairs. Which occasionally didn't work. Cause I'm a bum. So I feel you. But then if you miss gym days...there's really no other supplement than to do it on your own. ^_~
